RECREATION IN AND AROUND KALEDEN
Places to see and things to do
The list of recreational activities to do in and around Kaleden is a long one. Below are a few highlights, but the best way to discover the town is to explore it yourself. A calendar of events is available on our home page, or check out Skaha Matters for regional news and event listings.
On the land
Locals enjoy walking, cycling and running along the Kettle Valley Railway trail (known as the KVR). The KVR is a network of trails built on decommissioned rail beds running through southern British Columbia. The KVR runs through Kaleden along the shore of Skaha Lake at Pioneer Park. The park has good facilities for tennis, pickleball, basketball and has a fenced playground for children.
Adventure is within reach with many hiking and mountain biking trails. The beautiful winding roads – perfect for a relaxing drive – also take you to local golf courses. In the winter, skating at the park, snowshoeing, tobogganing, alpine skiing and cross-country skiing are popular pursuits.
You can find classes and groups of all sorts, from playing cards and games; learning to cook; practicing yoga; working out at various fitness levels; to different age groups creating arts and crafts.
In the water
Stunning lakes present lots of opportunities to play in and on the water.
Skaha Lake and Twin Lakes are both popular for swimming, fishing, paddle boarding, canoeing, kite-surfing and many other water-related activities.
The water here is clean and a very nice temperature during the summer months.
To the sky
Stargazing is a pleasure from almost any location in Kaleden: the majority of the area is dark at night and it is easy to see stars that hide in the light pollution of bigger centres.
Kaleden is home to the National Research Council of Canada's Dominion Radio Astrophysical Observatory (DRAO). Located on White Lake Road, the observatory grounds are open to visitors year-round.
From the earth
The Okanagan is famous for its bountiful crops and world-class wines. We are proud to have fine vineyards and wineries as well as renowned orchards and roadside fruit stands.
Whether you chose to take a stroll in one of the beautiful gardens, have a meal at a good restaurant or stop by a popular local business, this is a place full of treats for you to love.
